![]() If you do this exactly and carefully, you can use them in a QS as 12V connectors as shown in figure 3 (QS PS pinout) above! ![]() The MDD's connector has got 14 pins, the others have got only 12 of them, so I just cut the last two off (pin 12 and 24): Nicely coded in colors: red-5V / orange-3.3V / yellow-12V / black-GND / white-25V&28V / blue-12V / green-power on / purple-+5VTKGR (not needed for DA & QS!) So, what we see is that everything we need is there! Not sure if that's different for a 2002 QS model.) On a Quicksilver G4/733 (first model) Pin 9 is Purple, not White as shown below. So I decided, to change the original power supply to one from a MDD, those have even more power and are much thinner.Īfter looking at Apples site for the pinouts of the power supplies, I figured out that this conversion would be a piece of cake: What I like very much, since I read of it the first time here on Xlr8YourMac, is overclocking CPUs.If you do this exessively, you will need lots of cooling, more than the original Apple-cooler is able to supply. So I looked after a better CPU-cooler, but all of them are very huge, so they don't fit in a normal Quicksilver or DA enclosure, because of their powersupplies :-( How to convert a MDD Quicksilver power supply to let it work in any G4 (mainly Quicksilvers and Digital Audio's) Although the mods worked for him, any mods you do yourself are at your own risk of course.) ( Note: this is a reader submitted article. Updated: (for page w/images of mtg MDD PS in QS tower) Updated: (for reader notes on QS wiring and mtg) Mods to Mirror Drive Door Power Supply for DA/QS Towers I'm thinking the machine is not getting enough power to drive the logic board but would like other thoughts and experiences please.Recent Updates | Mac Upgrades/Repairs | Storage | Video | Audio/HT | Apps/OS/Network | Home No mouse activity and no keyboard activity, but I was running some streaming video off a website. Could that be the problem? Tonight it ran for almost 3 hours with no issues then the crash. i'm using the hard drive off my old emac, the spec for the Power Mac states it takes an ultra ATA drive? is mine an ultra? no idea. I'm no apple expert but am becoming one with each passing day. Anyway, to cut a long story short i'd like to know any ideas on what could be causing this. But yet the thing starts up and appears to be ok. I checked the power supply as described by the apple manual and get zero readings. It starts up ok but crashes after 10 minutes or so. I love the look of those machines and I've always heard how reliable they are so got one off ebay. Got it off ebay described as tested and working. Got an Power Mac G4 mirror door drive, model number M8570. ![]()
